I&I Detection

Find Where the Water's Coming From

Smart sensors measure flow changes during dry and wet weather. Compare what goes in versus what comes out, and identify exactly which sections are adding excess flow.

No guessing. Just measured data. In most systems, a small portion of the network is responsible for the majority of I&I—our job is to find those problem areas so you're not inspecting or repairing pipe that doesn't need it.

How It Works

Measure it. Compare it. Find it.

A straightforward process that uses actual flow data to locate I&I sources.

01

Deploy Sensors at Key Points

We place sensors to create control points—upstream, downstream, and at branches. This lets us see how flow behaves as it moves through different sections of your system.

02

Establish a Baseline

Before measuring I&I, we capture your system's normal dry-weather patterns. This baseline tells us what to expect when it's not raining.

03

Measure Rain Response

When storms hit, sensors track how flow changes—how much, how fast, and how long. We correlate this with rainfall to separate normal response from excess I&I.

04

Compare and Isolate

If flow increases significantly between two sensors during rain, the problem is in that section. We compare segments to pinpoint where excess water is entering.

05

Narrow It Down

Once we find a contributing area, we move sensors closer together. The goal is to reduce the search to adjacent manholes—not miles of pipe.

06

Verify the Fix

After repairs, sensors confirm the problem is solved. You get data showing the actual reduction, not just a hope that it worked.
